Blue Nitro is an American rock, blues and funk band formed in Chicago in 2016. Priding themselves on both writing exciting songs and performing plenty of classics, this is a band that finds many ways to bond with its fans. Their debut EP, Fueled Up, was released in February 2019.
Founder Dean Sarantos' previous bands performed with artists such as Gin Blossoms, Goo Goo Dolls, Rusted Root, The Afghan Whigs, Catherine Wheel, Material Issue and Donnie Iris.
Moving to Chicago, Dean began working on the amalgam of rock, funk and blues that became Blue Nitro. Dean recruited Cheryl O. (vocals), Chris Hopper (bass) and John Marrella, formerly of Lovin' Spoonful and Head East (drums) to form the band. In late 2018, Gil Cadrecha was recrutied as the current drummer.
Gil, a formally trained drummer with over forty years of experience, performs in a variety of music genres and brings his jazz and Latin/Afro-Cuban musical influences to the band. Jazz, Big Band, R&B, Country, as well as worship drumming in various churches has kept him busy playing throughout the Chicagoland area.
Cheryl brings a strong stage presence and deep background in singing rock, soul and blues. She has a powerful, soulful style and has a love of "guitar-slinger" music.
Chris is an eclectic musician whose interests span from Americana to hard funk to jazz and just about everywhere in between, laying down a heavy bottom line with his bass guitar.
Today, Blue Nitro is entertaining audiences and gaining fans with its scintillating show and top notch musicianship.
